Details
Based on real events in a large American prison in the 1930s - where the food is disgusting, the mood rebellious and the punishment amounts to torture - it is an impassioned account of inhumanity and injustice. One of the young prisoners, Jim, trying not to spoil his chances of parole, distances himself from the unrest and spends his time reading poetry and becoming involved with Eva, the Warden's secretary.
