Book Subscription FAQs

How does a book subscription work?

Once you’ve picked which subscription you would like to purchase and placed your order, we will send out the first book and a welcome card to the subscriber. You choose the start date that suits the recipient when placing your order.

The first package includes a hand-wrapped book in our exclusive signature paper, a personalised bookmark, and a welcome card explaining the subscription. Subsequent gift-wrapped books will follow at the beginning of the calendar month.

What if I want to cancel a subscription?

There is a 14 day ‘cooling off’ period from the day of purchase in which you can cancel your subscription and get a full refund. Once a subscription has started we cannot refund or part-refund a subscription.
To cancel a subscription please e-mail us with you order number: bookshop@nationaltheatre.org.uk or ring us on 0207 452 3456.

I already have the book I was sent, can I swap it for another?

You are welcome to exchange the book for another of our choice if the original book is returned to us in sellable condition. We set a limit at 3 books for a 12 month subscription, and 1 book for a 6 month subscription.

Can I buy the subscription as a gift?

Absolutely! You can choose a different delivery address during the checkout process. We never include the receipt or anything showing the cost of a subscription in the delivery.

Why are subscriptions outside the UK more expensive than subscriptions with UK delivery?

We charge slightly more for non-UK delivery addresses to part-cover the cost of postage over the course of a 6 or 12 month subscription.

Why are the Children’s Picture Books different prices?

The pictures books we choose tend to sell in the shop for either £5.99 or £11.99, and because we want to send you the very best new books in hardback as well as paperback we might send you books at different price points. These prices balance out throughout the subscription.
